Open HMS PTSA Leadership Positions

 

HMS PTSA is seeking volunteers to fill the open leadership positions listed below for the 2026–2027 school year. The Vice President of Programs, Advocacy Chair,  and Scholarships & Grants Chair serve on the PTSA Executive Board and attend monthly board meetings.

 

Submitting your interest does not commit you to accepting a position. Interested applicants will be contacted by the HMS PTSA President to discuss the role, responsibilities and anticipated time commitment.


Vice President Programs
The Vice President of Programs helps oversee and support the PTSA committees and activities that provide educational, enrichment and community-building opportunities for HMS students and families. This position works with committee chairs, assists with program planning and coordination, monitors upcoming deadlines, and helps ensure programs align with the PTSA’s goals and calendar.

Advocacy Chair
The Advocacy Chair keeps HMS families informed about education issues and opportunities to advocate for students and public education. Responsibilities may include sharing nonpartisan information from Texas PTA, National PTA, GCISD and other reliable sources; communicating legislative updates and calls to action; and helping families understand how decisions at the campus, district and state levels affect students.

Scholarships and Grants Chair
The Scholarships & Grants Chair coordinates the HMS PTSA student scholarship program and identifies community, state and national grant opportunities that could support HMS students, staff, programs and resources. Responsibilities include updating scholarship applications and guidelines, communicating deadlines, organizing an impartial scholarship review committee, maintaining applicant confidentiality and coordinating the notification and recognition of recipients. The chair will also research appropriate grant opportunities, track application deadlines and assist with preparing and submitting grant applications.

Hospitality Coordinator
The Hospitality Coordinator helps create a welcoming environment at PTSA meetings, programs, and special events. Responsibilities may include coordinating refreshments, organizing supplies, assisting with setup and cleanup, and working with event chairs to determine hospitality needs. This is a great role for someone who enjoys helping behind the scenes and making volunteers and guests feel welcome.

Join a PTSA Committee

Staff Appreciation Committee
Help us show HMS teachers and staff how much they are appreciated throughout the school year. Volunteers may assist with planning, decorating, setting up, serving and cleaning up for monthly staff appreciation events, meals and treats.

Fall Social Committee
Help plan the Jeans and Jerseys Fall Social, a favorite HMS tradition for students in all three grades. Volunteers are needed to assist with event planning, decorations, concessions, setup, check-in, chaperoning and cleanup. Fall Social is scheduled for Friday, October 23rd.

6th Grade Cotillion
Help create a memorable HMS tradition for our sixth-grade students. Cotillion is held on four Friday evenings in January and includes instruction in dancing, manners, and other social skills, with a different theme each week. Volunteers may help with planning, decorations, check-in, food, setup, chaperoning and cleanup. Volunteers are typically 6th grade parents.

8th Grade Celebration & Party
Help celebrate our eighth graders before they head to high school. Volunteers will assist with planning, fundraising, decorations, activities, food, setup, chaperoning, and cleanup for this special April or May event.

Spring Social Committee
Help plan a fun spring GLOW social for HMS students. Volunteers may assist with event planning, decorations, concessions, setup, check-in, chaperoning and cleanup. Spring Social is scheduled for Friday, April 16th.

Awards and Recognition Committee
Help recognize the volunteers and community members who make a difference at HMS. This committee will review nominations and select recipients for the Friend of Children Award, Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership Award, Texas PTA Extended Service Award and National PTA Life Achievement Award.Award, Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership Award, Texas PTA Extended Service Award, & National PTA Extended Service Award.

Student Scholarship Committee
Help select scholarship recipients from graduating seniors who previously attended HMS. Committee members will review and score applications and select a minimum of two deserving recipients. Members may not be the parent or guardian of a graduating senior.

Community Service & Environmental Committee
Help develop opportunities for HMS students and families to serve the community and care for our campus. Projects may include donation drives, community service initiatives, campus beautification, environmental awareness activities and other efforts that support HMS and the surrounding community.

Dude's Club Committee
Calling all dads, dudes and positive male role models! Help support HMS students and PTSA events by volunteering with activities, campus programs, chaperoning, and other opportunities throughout the school year.

Silent Auction Committee
Work with the Vice President of Fundraising/Ways and Means to support the HMS PTSA Silent Auction. Committee members will help solicit donations from businesses and community members, organize donated items, create and upload listings to the auction website, and coordinate the distribution of items to winning bidders when the auction closes.

Color War/Healthy Lifestyles Committee
Help plan and carry out the HMS Color War in September and Healthy Lifestyles Month in November. Volunteers may assist with event planning, activities, programming, supplies, setup, student participation, volunteer coordination and cleanup as we encourage healthy choices and active lifestyles throughout the HMS community.

Culture & Connections Committee
Help create opportunities that celebrate and recognize the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences represented within HMS and GCISD. Volunteers may assist with educational programs, campus activities, and other efforts that promote inclusion and strengthen our school community.

Support student creativity through the National PTA Reflections program. Volunteers may help promote the program, organize entries and serve as judges for student submissions in art, music, dance, film, photography, literature and choreography.
